Winter 2010
It been another crazy year for us. Mostly good but some bad. Dan retired from the Environmental Protection Agency with over 30 years of service (yea). He figured he would have lots of time to relax and pursue his art and hobbies but it seem that life always manages to get in the way.
Linda has been teaching at the Boys and Girls Club of Madison and Morgan County, where she started a drawing club & “recycled art” program, and at the Crossroads School, also located in Madison, Georgia. Dan has built new and repaired damaged furniture which the students at Crossroads sand and paint. The furniture is then donated to the Department of Family and Children Services for use in their children’s waiting room.
Dan & Linda Thoman co-taught a Steffen Thomas Museum of Art (ST
MA) Family Workshop entitled Turn, Turn, Turn during November. This program offered families a chance to try out wood turning on lathes that Dan set up at entrance of the Museum. It was a beautiful Fall morning for letting the wood chips fly! For those that were not turning wood, an wood-turned ornament painting workshop was going on inside.
Linda’s efforts finally paid off and Keep Morgan County Beautiful was certified by and accepted into the national Keep America Beautiful organization. Congratulations Linda.
Linda & Dan captained SAG (support and gear) stops for the BRAG (bicycle ride across Georgia) spring tune-up at the STMA in April and The Camp Twin Lakes Spin for Kids in October. If you don’t know about Camp Twin Lakes check of their website (www.camptwinlakes.org).They do wonderful things for kids with serious illnesses and disabilities.
Linda, sponsored by STMA, presented holiday theme art activities at the Boys and Girls Club of Madison and Morgan County during the month of December. The club members painted wooden ornament forms turned for us by Dan Thoman, which were used as gifts for Boys and Girls Club volunteers and staff.
